Yhdysvalloissa yli 6 miljoonaa latino-lasta elää nyt köyhyydessä uuden raportin mukaan. Yhdysvaltojen historian ensimmäinen kerta, että köyhien lasten suurin yksittäinen ryhmä ei ole ollut valkoista.
Trendin taustalla on maan kasvava määrä latinalaisamerikkalaisia sekä maahanmuuttajien suuri syntyvyys ja taantuva taloudellinen tahto, tänään julkaistun Pew Research Center -raportin mukaan (28. syyskuuta). Latinos-maiden työttömyysaste oli 11,1 prosenttia vuonna 2010, kun taas koko kansakunta oli 9,1 prosenttia.

Absent the CTC expansion, the poverty rate among Hispanic children is 10 percentage points higher than overall child poverty. 👉 In 2017, a higher percentage of first-generation immigrant children (those born outside the United States) lived below the federal poverty line (25 percent) than second-generation children (those born inside the United States) and non-immigrant children (those who are not first- or second-generation immigrants) (22 and 17 percent, respectively).
👉 For 2022, the poverty threshold for a family of 4 with two children was $29,678. Poverty status is not determined for people in military barracks, institutional quarters, or for unrelated individuals under age 15 (such as foster children). The data are based on income received in the 12 months prior to the survey.
